Synopsis

Written and performed by Laura Nieves and directed by Laura Murphy, You Hold a Pole Everyday takes us inside a pole dancing studio, where after a Me Too experience, a barista cautiously seeks connection with her own physical power but reluctantly finds herself learning the moves alongside her Spanish Mother and Grandmother. Laura Nieves (writer/performer)
is an actor & singer/songwriter. She is thrilled to share her second rendition of You Hold a Pole Everyday with you and hopes you’ll catch the other wonderful solo shows in this fest as well! Favorite credits: Eleemosynary (Artie), Proof (Claire), Vagina Monologues (Various Roles).
Laura can also be heard in music venues throughout the city under Oh, Elis or through various online music platforms. Her single, “The Most Beautiful Garden”, is featured in the film, Ask for Jane, and was also on a recent episode of Democracy Now! Laura holds a BFA in Acting from Emerson College and studies with Caymichael Patten. 

Laura Murphy (director)
earned her degree in Theater Studies at Emerson College ('09), focusing on both acting and dance performance. Since then she has performed and choreographed for numerous NYC dance companies including DanceworksNYC, Undertoe Dance Company, Ya'el Tap, and Kelly Donovan Dancers. Back in 2013 she stumbled upon the world of Burlesque and has been moonlighting as Ms Harlow Wigglesworth ever since. She is a performer and dance captain for The Hot Box Girls International, an all singing burlesque revue show that is based in both NY and Vienna, Austria. She is currently the MC for the Operatic Tease burlesque show at Duane Park and is enjoying her career as a voice over artist.
